Many students at DePaul face the difficult decision to choose between completing an unpaid internship that will give them skills and experience to further their career, or working a part or full-time job just to make ends meet. This is not a unique challenge, but its impact has been felt now more than ever given the current job market and state of the world.
According to the National Association of Colleges & Employers (NACE), recent studies show that students who have internship experience are more likely to find employment after graduation than those who do not have internship experience. Another NACE study found that 66.4% of 2019 grads who had a paid internship received a full time offer, whereas 43.7% of students with unpaid internships were offered employment.
For many students at DePaul, they are drawn to careers and internships at organizations with Vincentian values such as non-profits. Although work is being done to increase the number of paid internship opportunities, many organizations do not have the capacity to fund their interns for the valuable work they do. Internship Plus is a scholarship fund designed to help fund DePaul students during their unpaid internship experiences. Each quarter, we get an average of 40 applications from students, and are able to award an average of 22 students quarterly. With your help, we can increase the number of funded internship students.
Every dollar of this campaign will go to fund an undergraduate DePaul student in an unpaid internship experience. Your gift, no matter the amount, has the potential to impact students’ short and long term career success.
