Thank you for your interest in the Dept. of Geography! This campaign has ended, but you can still make a gift to support the department by clicking here.
DePaul's nationally-recognized Department of Geography is Chicago's premier program in geography and geotechnology. Our mission is to prepare students for a broad range of academic, public, and private sector careers that build on geographic/spatial analysis and technologies: From nonprofit organizations and NGOs to state, local, and federal government agencies, from urban planning to environmental management and public diplomacy, and from marketing to real estate development, geographers provide critical analytical and visualization know-how that support decision-making.
We’re seeking support for the department to adopt drone technology for use in GIS (geographical information systems) curriculum by the program. Having access to a drone will enable our faculty and students to map urban and environmental spaces in the Chicago area and other communities and ensure students are leaving our program with cutting edge skills that prepare them to make an impact in the world when they graduate. Our program has a strong foundation in service learning and community partnerships where our students complete GIS projects and research with community organizations that would otherwise not have the skills or capacity.
The cost of the drone is not just in the technology purchase itself, but also in the additional parts and extended warranty to ensure that courses are not disrupted if damage or other failure occurs with the device.
Help us reduce the ambient noise of our drone with special ‘low-noise’ propellers and respect public space!
Help extend the warranty of the drone to protect against accidental damage!
