Spring Break Service Immersions 2020

We are asking for your help in making Service Immersion trips possible for students with financial need. This program provides transformative experiences for our students as well as for the communities they serve. We don't want any student to miss out on this opportunity simply because of the cost. Please show your support today - contributions of any size are appreciated, and they all make a difference!

The University Mission and Ministry Service Immersion Program is committed to DePaul University’s Vincentian, Catholic, and urban mission that emphasizes education and compassion through service to persons who live in poverty. Through the Vincentians in Action (VIA) model, the Service Immersion Program helps students understand their service experiences from the perspectives of their diverse faith backgrounds and inner convictions in order to foster a lifelong commitment to upholding the dignity of each individual. VIA includes three Ways: The Way of Awareness and Appreciation, the Way of Dialogue, and the Way of Solidarity. Each Way provides a framework for students to better comprehend their service experience and reflect upon their own lives as a member of the human community.

Service Immersions are opportunities to travel to different cities over Winter and Spring Break and join communities in service and justice work. Each year over 130 DePaul students dedicate their breaks to service, reflection, simplicity, community, spirituality and social justice. They have the opportunity to serve, live and build relationships with over 13 marginalized communities throughout the United States and the Americas.

On a Service Immersion, students spend a week doing such things as: working with those experiencing homelessness in Los Angeles; learning about Civil Rights in Montgomery; learning about restorative justice in Colombia, and much more.

"What must be done?" is our Vincentian question. On a Service Immersion students will learn firsthand what it means to be a Vincentian in Action and how to live out DePaul’s mission of service and justice. Integrated throughout the immersion experience are the Vincentian in Action ways of awareness/appreciation, dialogue, and solidarity. It is in these experiences that we hope to inspire growth and change in a way that resonates back home through the sharing of stories and action toward systemic change.
