Help develop the next generation of social justice leaders.

The Breving-Rosenberg High School Summer Internship program provides alumni of our Regina V. Polk High School Union Summer School an opportunity to further their involvement in the labor movement.

It began in 2015 to develop the next generation of social justice leaders, ensuring a diverse, skilled workforce to address inequality, and improve the lives of working people. In this intensive, month-long paid internship, Chicagoland high school students are provided with an orientation and weekly cohort meetings to help them learn about the labor movement, social justice, and their role in strengthening rights for all workers.  They are also placed with a local union, worker center, or community-based organizations to support their efforts and get hands-on real world work experience in areas such as organizing, research, and communications.   After completing the internship, participants are encouraged to continue long-term relationships with each other, our staff, and the staff of their placement organization for mentoring and support as they continue their education and careers helping working people.   We are striving to stay safe during the pandemic, and on top of the rapid technological changes. This is why, like last summer, our upcoming 2021 internship will be run virtually.

At our center, we challenge each other to consider #WhatElseMustBeDone to promote a transformational labor movement.  We are truly guided by this mission as you can see in the work we carry out. We build the capacity of unions, worker centers, and community-based organizations through adult and youth labor education, trainings, public events, awareness building, consultations, resource sharing, and research.  Our Center is completely self-funded, thus we rely heavily on donations to support our programs such as this one. By giving just $16 you can help provide funding for a student to participate.

If you have any questions or would like to volunteer with our Center, please don’t hesitate to reach out!  Thank you for your support!
