Since our founding, DePaul Inclusion in Finance has had the goal of giving back to the DePaul community, including supporting and providing mentorship to diverse students who may have felt lost during their career search. The need for this has grown even more since the onset of the pandemic.

We are very pleased and humbled by our club’s success and take pride in how many students our organization has been able to help guide and mentor, since our initial launch in early fall of 2020. Our diverse members and the students of the DePaul community have greatly benefited from our initiatives focused on promoting awareness, knowledge, and preparedness for careers in finance.

Some of our most successful initiatives include:

  • Panels with diverse industry professionals that highlight their successful pursuit of a career in finance
  • A financial analysis case competition, where members presented their research to industry professionals
  • Workshops and training on how to build confidence in the workplace, polish interview skills, and tips on networking

Our mission since day one has been to bridge the gap between qualified diverse candidates and careers in finance. With the help of our industry partners and the faculty at DePaul, we have been able to achieve our primary goals and effectively grow our organization, surpassing expectations. We are tremendously grateful this outpouring of support which has only helped to further guide our mission.

Stanford Graduate School of Business reports, “Diversity efforts at the CEO level have been less successful, with women holding only 7 percent and ethnically diverse executives only 9 percent of CEO positions among Fortune 500 Companies”. DePaul Inclusion in Finance is focused on recruiting and attracting minority students and helping train the next generation of diverse leaders!

As we now launch our new campaign, Fund for Equity, you can help further our mission of developing diverse talent at DePaul. Your donation, will help support and further strengthen our initiatives, enabling us to reach the greater diverse community at DePaul.

Some exciting initiatives we have planned for 2022 include:

1. Cover certification & finance resources costs for members

Description: Finance certificates are a great way for students to acquire new knowledge and skills in particular careers. As the finance job market becomes increasingly competitive, we look to continue to spread information on these resources to minority and female students at DePaul. We will afford our students an opportunity to receive this kind of training, as some students may not have the ability to afford it from their own finances. This allows them to gain the needed expertise and stand out to employers early on.

Certifications include:

  • Corporate Finance Institute - Finance, Banking, and Valuation concepts
  • Wall Street Prep – Valuation
  • Financial Modeling Training

2. Business professional etiquette and clothing

Description: Standing out to employers via professional etiquette is a critical step in securing an internship which leads to a full-time offer, but many students may not have the financial means to secure such professional clothing such as suits or dresses. Additionally, we will offer minority students and those in need professional etiquette training and resources.

3. Company visits and coffee chats

Description: The first step in choosing a career in finance for someone who is not exposed to the field is learning about the variety of paths available and what a career in it can look like. Office visits and coffee networking is an excellent way for students to get personal connections and find mentors who can guide them.
