Growing up in a multi-generational household in a Polish immigrant neighborhood, Bob deeply identifies with DePaul’s mission to make higher education accessible to working families and students from communities who have been historically pushed to the margins of society, for whom higher education has long been an inaccessible or unwelcoming place. He started his 48 year career at DePaul working as a nighttime custodian in the Vincentian residence and going to night school - building close friendships with many Vincentians that have continued to this day. He graduated as a first-generation college student and went on to earn his master’s in Public Administration from DePaul. His career and his life are a testament to the transformative power of higher education.
The most joyful moments of his career are centered on being in community; building a second family with the Facility Operations crew; countless memories made at campus events with his late wife, and fellow Blue Demon, Nancy; time with the students (and now alumni) who he fostered friendships with through Student Government Association and DemonTHON; the honor of being able to hand his children their diplomas at graduation.
Bob has given generously of himself in service of the mission of DePaul - dedicating his life to the spirit of personalism and professionalism of our Vincentian namesake. He has never forgotten what “the name above the door” means and who it is that we gather in service of each day.
In lieu of retirement gifts, we are asking for donations to scholarships at DePaul in honor of Bob. This will help DePaul continue to ensure that all students, most especially those from communities traditionally underrepresented in higher education, can have greater access to all the things that make a DePaul experience so transformative. Thank you for contributing to this effort - to honor Bob’s lifetime of service with a gift to scholarship that will support students in perpetuity.
