Vincentian Service Day (VSD) is an annual tradition at DePaul. Started during the 1998-1999 school year as part of DePaul's Centennial celebration, over 700 DePaul students, staff, faculty and alumni participate in a day of service with 50+ community partners in the Chicagoland area and cities around the country.
Coordinated by staff and student employees in the Division of Mission and Ministry, VSD enables participants to connect to DePaul's mission and the greater Chicago community. Volunteers help in community gardens, assist with landscaping at local parks, and connect with the needs of community partners who might not typically have the capacity to do big projects.
Students, faculty, and staff who participate begin the day in Lincoln Park where speakers remind volunteers how their work connects to DePaul's mission. After service, volunteers return to Lincoln Park for a post-service barbecue.
VSD is about community, with one participant explaining: VSD "made me stop and think not only about the value of community service, but also WHY it's important to serve the community, why it's important to be part of a community and what we are obligated to contribute to our communities."
Your support of VSD will enable us to continue to expand this DePaul tradition so that more students, faculty, and staff can participate each year. With your donation, you will be helping to provide transportation for volunteers to sites across Chicago.
