Come here, go away.

We are truly grateful for the generous support of our community! Inspired by your response to this campaign, Andrew Johnson, founder of the Brault Modern Languages Study Abroad Fund, is offering an incentive – he will match all additional gifts, dollar for dollar, up to $4,000! That would bring our fund to $16,000! Please give what you can to help us reach this new goal!

“Come here, go away.” That is what we in Modern Languages want for every student in our program. We want them to come here to Chicago to learn foreign languages and cultures in our rigorous, innovative, and engaging classes, but then we want them to go away to continue their study and pursue their dreams abroad. Whether it is on one of our long-term programs in Amman, Buenos Aires, Florence, Guadalajara, Kyoto, Madrid, Menton, Merida, Mexico City, Osaka, Paris, Reims, Rome, Shanghai, Tokyo, or Vienna, or on one of our short-term study trips, such as “Argentine: The World of Wine,” “Berlin: Navigating the Refugee Experience,” or “Imagining the Future with China,” students have the unique opportunity to combine a rich academic experience designed by our Modern Language faculty with immersion in a foreign culture.

DePaul students thus “come here, go away”—and then, sometimes, they come back in order to help the next generation of students do the same. That is exactly what an alumnus of our French Program has done. Having himself had a transformative college study abroad experience in Paris, he has generously offered to help our Modern Languages Department raise funds for current and future students to study abroad.  This former student’s experience and reasons for reaching out to us are perhaps best expressed in his own words: "The [DePaul IES Program in Paris] truly opened up my eyes to the world—exposing me to people, cultures, and experiences that had a profound impact on my worldview. I am grateful for these opportunities and would like to explore how to give back, and also help ensure that future generations of DePaul students have similar opportunities.”

Studying abroad is a life-changing experience, and all of us in Modern Languages would love for every student in Modern Languages to have access to such an opportunity.

Will you help in our effort to send students away into the world to discover and understand others as well as themselves?

Thank you for considering helping our students fulfill their dream.

No donation is too small!
