Dear Friends of Modern Languages,
Whether you’re an alumnus of our department, a friend or family member of one of our students, a fan of study abroad, or simply a supporter of language study, I’m writing to THANK YOU for your generous donation to the Brault Modern Languages Study Abroad Fund. We’re thrilled that so many from our Modern Languages community came together to make our first year of fundraising such a success. With over 60 individual donors, we were able to raise more than $15,000 for student study abroad scholarships in our first crowdfunding campaign this winter. Thank you very much! Your generosity has given us a strong foundation to build upon when we run our fundraiser again next year.
In addition to the fundraising piece, our campaign produced other exciting outcomes. For example, several MOL alumni have expressed interest in participating in events that bring our language alumni together with our current students. If you’re a former student of Modern Languages who’d like to be connected to our department in student/alumni programming in the future, I’d love to hear from you! Our students have been largely U.S.-bound over the past year, but we expect that study abroad activity will begin to resume in the 2021-22 academic year. Once that happens, we’ll be sure to have recipients of these new scholarships share their experiences abroad with you so that you can see what a difference your contribution has made. As you surely know, study abroad teaches us something about the places we visit—and the places from which we come. We’re so grateful to you for helping our students on their way to these life-changing experiences.

We are so grateful for the tremendous amount of support we have received for the Brault Modern Languages Study Abroad Fund! When we began our crowdfunding journey we were not sure what to expect, but here we are with $10,000 (and counting!) in generous donations from alumni and friends who understand the power of study abroad. Cultural outings are such an important part of the study-abroad experience. By making this gift, you're helping to cover the entry fee for a student to a museum or other cultural attraction.
A gift at this level will cover the cost of a bus pass for an entire weekend, helping a student get around to make the most of their journey.
Sometimes a student runs into an problem on the road. A gift at this level would provide peace of mind, helping to get them through an emergency and back on track.
This gift will help cover the cost of attending a multi-day workshop or lecture series for a student.
